I strongly suggest to find some different scanner product. I just wanted to see in what camp of scanners AVG Free is and started an install in a VM, at which point I was presented the license conditions, which has the following clause: ''' e. Testing, Benchmarking. You shall not, and shall not permit any third party to test or benchmark nor externally disclose or publish testing or benchmark results for any AVG Software without AVG Technologies' prior written consent. Requests for authorization for testing or benchmarking can be directed through testing and benchmarking authorization section on AVG Technologies' website www.avg.com. ''' So this clause even denies me the right to publish if I find it is incompatible with Mercurial. I am certainly not going to ask AVG Technologies for permission to publish my findings about their scanner. I have better things to do. I don't care about benchmarks but I usually care about if such products open files with setting the FILE_SHARE_DELETE flag on the WinAPI CreateFile function or not. Setting this flag is required to be compatible with Mercurial. It's also unwanted (and thus making the product incompatible) if a scanner maps files into memory for scanning them. Since the license of AVG Free even disallows me to publish any findings I may have, testing this product is pointless. So I can only recommend to not use AVG Free. AV scanners that should work with Mercurial 1.8 and newer includes for example Microsoft Security Essentials, which opens files for scanning by setting FILE_SHARE_DELETE when calling CreateFile -- and which I am allowed to say in public, thanks to their license. ------------------------------------------------------------------------------ Create and publish websites with WebMatrix Use the most popular FREE web apps or write code yourself; WebMatrix provides all the features you need to develop and publish your website. http://p.sf.net/sfu/ms-webmatrix-sf _______________________________________________ Tortoisehg-discuss mailing list [email protected] https://lists.sourceforge.net/lists/listinfo/tortoisehg-discuss
