My time available for thg hacking is limited these days, so I have no
firm plans for this.  My hope is that someone will rewrite the record
extension to use a memctx, and then thg can leverage this code
directly.  Patrick made a lot of progress in this direction in the run
up to 1.9, but I don't think it is finished yet.
