I'm passing this along for two reasons:
1) Some of you might be interested in such a workshop, particularly if
you're doing HFOSS type stuff already.
2) It is absolutely fascinating to compare their approach -- email
style, wording, tone, website, program structure (as described by the
website), participation requirements, and so forth... to what we've got
for POSSE.
That is all.

We continue to invite applications to attend one of three 2012 workshops
focused on Learning Through Service (LTS) – a term used for various
educational efforts that engage communities; whether the effort is
curricular or extracurricular, or the community is local or global.
These FREE workshops, entitled “Engineering Learning Through Service”
actively engage engineering faculty on the design, management, and
assessment of LTS in engineering education. The workshops will bring
together engineering faculty interested in, or those newly engaged with,
LTS and will be lead by faculty experienced in the various methods LTS
has been implemented in engineering programs. These workshops are part
of a multi-institutional, NSF-funded research effort entitled
Engineering Faculty Engagement in Learning Through Service (EFELTS). It
is EFELTS goal to help build sustainable LTS efforts in engineering, and
a primary aim of these workshops is to continually engage workshop
attendees in various post-workshop events and activities to help foster
and grow an LTS community-of-practice.
All aspiring workshop participants must apply and can attend only one of
three workshops; scheduled for June 21-22, in Massachusetts, August 2-3
in Michigan, or September 14-15, 2012 in Colorado. Applications must
include a proposed LTS effort and a support letter from the applicant’s
department chair or program director.
A website detailing the workshops, the application process, as well as
the overall EFELTS effort, is located here
http://sites.tufts.edu/efeltsworkshops/
All applications are due by FRIDAY, MARCH 16, 2012.
Review of applications will begin in March and accepted participants
will be notified as to which workshop date and location they have been
accepted to by early April 2012.
We are excited about this opportunity to engage engineering faculty in
LTS implementation and look forward to working with many engineering
faculty in the months ahead. Please forward this to any another
engineering faculty you know who may be interested in LTS. For any
specific questions about the workshops, please send inquiries to me at
[email protected].
