Good day ladies and gentlemen.
I just arrived at home from last night's gig... and here's my story...

Swanny, who I will only mention once (As I mentioned him once now, I
will now refer to him as Mister S.) and Sandra Gode were already at the
trainstation when I arrived for the "meet" that was "organized" by me
(though most people came on behalf of Mr. S.). I already met Mr. S.,
Graham, Juliet and Clive last wednesday, so I was able to recognize him,
which made things easier...) Except a friend of mine, who missed his
train, everybody else was already at Rotterdam's finest (Irish) pub. We
all drank a few beers, and before we knew 4 pm had turned into 7 pm and
we had to move our asses to the Ahoy-venue. Some people got on the tour
bus, other people went temporarily missing (I guess, at least we didn't
know where they were), me, my friend and Juliet & Clive took a cab to
Ahoy.

Oh, thanks to Mr. S. my friend and I got "GUEST"-passes, so we could get
in quickly with everyone stepping aside and looking envious at our
passes.

First on was Elvis Crespo. Only a few women in the attendance of 10.000
people seemed to like it and were dancing. I thought it was a load of
shit. Hey, I'm here for Madness.

Thank God, after 3 songs Crespo went away and on came Shaggy... Mr.
Lonely Lover, or something. Yeah, he got the girls swinging alright. It
was entertaining, but that's all there was to it... He did his angels
and hopes, and got off stage after about 4 or 5 songs. Only to return
briefly on stage with the next act: Chaka Kahn. When she was singing
that she was every woman I was waiting for THE band for more than 2
hours...

Then the host of the show (it was some weird guy, not Shaggy or Suggs)
told is to get ready to get insane. Well, no problems with that, mate!

The stage was prepared for Madness (Woody's drumkit got on, some more
microphones and Mr B's keys got plugged in...)

Hey You, shouted some Mr. Smash (not Mr. S.), which sounded familiar and
also a bit strange, as it was my first Madness live experience. Well
after that everything got in a rush. They played GREAT if you ask me
really... They made the 40 euro's for my ticket worth.

Embarrasment, My Girl, Baggy Trousers, Lovestruck, Our House and
Nightboat to Cairo followed in random order. Unforutnately my bag opened
while jumping all around and my stuff, including my insulin (I'm
diabetic, yes) got on the floor. Many people went just searching and got
all my stuff back, which is quite an achievement. THANK YOU GUYS! I owe
you all one!

Nightboat To Cairo didn't begin with the normal shiphorn sound
saxplaying of Lee... Lee was blowing on a Kazoo (or something similar)
for it, which sounded like great fun. The band was really enjoying
themselves. Lee made some fun with the audience, and jumped on some
stairs. Bedders was looking happy and made some fun too. Chrissie Boy
just went all around the place while playing his guitar solo's and Suggs
crashed a watch. Maybe he was a bit annoyed that Chelsea lost the
football game that day...

The band went away. We shouted "We want more" and they came back again
(What a surprise! ;) ). They started this time in a song with a title
Suggs always believes in "It must be love" and after that a very nice
version of M M A A D D N N E E S S S -pause- YES!, Madness. And with
that came an end to Heineken NightLive. But not for me and my GUEST-pass
(Thanks go to Mr. S.).

We got to the afterparty. Free drinks and free autographs. Too bad I
still don't have Mr. B's, Woody's and Smash's... Ah well, it was a
lovely lovely lovely lovely lovely lovely lovely lovely lovely lovely
lovely lovely lovely lovely lovely lovely evening and everyone went home
drunk and happy.

Thanks guys for coming to the meet! And thanks Madness for making it a
lovely lovely lovely lovely lovely lovely lovely lovely lovely lovely
lovely lovely lovely lovely lovely lovely evening for everyone!

I hope to see you all in the near future!

Joost Eijkholt.

PS.

My name is pronounce like the Y (from Yellow) followed by oast (from
Toast). The English people seem to have some difficulties with that...
