On my system - 14.04 - kernel 3.13.0-24-generic: Bluetooth adapter is detected:
hciconfig shows hci0 Type: BR/EDR Bus: USB with a BD Address, and MTU Up Running rfkill list shows: 0: hci0: Bluetooth Soft Block: no Hard Block: no hcitool scan Scanning ...
