server 12.04 the same issue. Polkitd process consuming all unassigned cpu time. I spotted it yesterday

Killing polkitd "fixes" the problem. This only happens at boot. I've left the machine idle for 10 minutes, and still polkitd and dbus-daemon are taking lots of CPU. Sometimes NetworkManager as well takes a lot of CPU. Again, after killing polkitd after boot-up, the problem goes away. polkitd gets restarted and the system is responsive. I didn't have this problem in 13.10 and previous releases.
