It seems that:
$ sudo apt-get install qml-module-qt-labs-settings
manages to circumvent this, although it has many subsequent errors.

  App totally broken in wily?

Bug description:
  Trying to start the gallery app and all I get is an empty window and
  the following output in the terminal:
