I strongly suspect that this is due to incorrect tagging of the song in the first place. I've attached a song that uses (what I think) are Chinese characters. (Sorry, it might be Korean or Japanese, I cannot read any of these languages.)
At any rate, the attached song works fine, and we haven't noticed any problems with other songs that contain non-English characters. I suspect that this may have been an issue in the past, but no longer is a problem. Please re-open if you still think there is an issue. Providing one or two more sample songs would be useful too. ** Attachment added: "appleseed.mp3" https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/unity-scope-mediascanner/+bug/1384468/+attachment/4549032/+files/appleseed.mp3 ** Changed in: unity-scope-mediascanner (Ubuntu) Status: New => Invalid -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Touch seeded packages, which is subscribed to unity-scope-mediascanner in Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1384468 Title: Error character set detection for Chinese Status in unity-scope-mediascanner package in Ubuntu: Invalid Bug description: Some Chinese songs shows wrong characters (Not odd issue, about 30% of Chinese songs show wrong characters in my phone) The song attached which wraps codec "GBK" with "Latin1", so media- scanner only shows the Latin characters.
