Walter St, thank you for reporting this and helping make Ubuntu better. As per http://www.gigabyte.com/products/product-page.aspx?pid=4918#bios an update to your computer's buggy, insecure, and outdated BIOS is available (F4). If you update to this following https://help.ubuntu.com/community/BIOSUpdate does it change anything?
For more on BIOS updates and linux, please see https://help.ubuntu.com/community/ReportingBugs#Bug_reporting_etiquette . Please note your current BIOS is already in the Bug Description, so posting this on the old BIOS would not be helpful. Also, you don't have to create a new bug report. Once the BIOS is updated, if the problem is still reproducible: 1) Please provide the output of the following terminal command (not perform an apport-collect): sudo dmidecode -s bios-version && sudo dmidecode -s bios-release-date 2) Please make a comment specifically advising on if there was an improvement or not. 3) Please mark this report Status New. If it's not reproducible, please mark this as Invalid. Thank you for your understanding. ** Tags added: bios-outdated-f4 ** Changed in: xorg (Ubuntu) Importance: Undecided => Low ** Changed in: xorg (Ubuntu) Status: New => Incomplete -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Touch seeded packages, which is subscribed to xorg in Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1429026 Title: nvidia graphics card not detected Status in xorg package in Ubuntu: Incomplete Bug description: As the on-board intel HD graphics GPU can not drive the 2560x1440 resolution of the monitor I need the graphics card. The motherboard only comes with a PCI slot, so I chose the Zotac GT610 PCI card. However, it is not recognized by the sytem. dmesg | grep VGA yields [ 0.874589] fb0: EFI VGA frame buffer device [ 2.202555] fb: conflicting fb hw usage inteldrmfb vs EFI VGA - removing generic driver I have researched the 'conflicting fb hw ...' message. I do not know if this is related to the problem but the www-posted solutions don't help in my case: 1: try install nivdia proprietary drivers - the NVIDIA installer did not find a card 2: remove gfxmode $linux_gfxmode from grub Other attempts: I have set my BIOS to video: UEFI first (as recommended by the support team from GIGABYTE) but that did not change anything, either - still booting with intel HD graphics only I have turned off intel onboard graphics which makes the system to fail booting at all (BIOS reset required to get back) ProblemType: Bug DistroRelease: Ubuntu 14.04 Package: xorg 1:7.7+1ubuntu8.1 ProcVersionSignature: Ubuntu 3.13.0-46.76-generic 3.13.11-ckt15 Uname: Linux 3.13.0-46-generic x86_64 .tmp.unity.support.test.0: ApportVersion: 2.14.1-0ubuntu3.7 Architecture: amd64 CompizPlugins: [core, composite, opengl, compiztoolbox, decor, vpswitch, snap, mousepoll, resize, place, move, wall, grid, regex, imgpng, session, gnomecompat, animation, fade, unitymtgrabhandles, workarounds, scale, expo, ezoom, unityshell] CompositorRunning: compiz CompositorUnredirectDriverBlacklist: '(nouveau|Intel).*Mesa 8.0' CompositorUnredirectFSW: true CurrentDesktop: Unity Date: Fri Mar 6 09:57:08 2015 DistUpgraded: Fresh install DistroCodename: trusty DistroVariant: ubuntu ExtraDebuggingInterest: Yes GraphicsCard: Intel Corporation ValleyView Gen7 [8086:0f31] (rev 0c) (prog-if 00 [VGA controller]) Subsystem: Gigabyte Technology Co., Ltd Device [1458:d000] InstallationDate: Installed on 2015-02-20 (13 days ago) InstallationMedia: Ubuntu 14.04 LTS "Trusty Tahr" - Release amd64 (20140417) MachineType: Gigabyte Technology Co., Ltd.
