I don't seem to be running into any crash. Also I can't make out any dbus timeouts in the *.log-files on the devices I tested this on. The stutter is more striking, when a sound is attached to the notification.
Just from looking at the back- and frontend of the notification-system, I don't know what could be done to eliminate the jerkiness. I think a closer look is needed a bit deeper in the stack (qtmir, audio-playback). -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Touch seeded packages, which is subscribed to unity8 in Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1366752 Title: Phone freezes for a moment when message notification appears Status in “unity8” package in Ubuntu: Confirmed Bug description: unity8 8.00+14.10.20140903.1~rtm-0ubuntu1 image# 29 RTM When I receive a message, my phone halts for a moment and then resumes. 1.
