I don't seem to be running into any crash. Also I can't make out any
dbus timeouts in the *.log-files on the devices I tested this on. The
stutter is more striking, when a sound is attached to the notification.

Just from looking at the back- and frontend of the notification-system,
I don't know what could be done to eliminate the jerkiness. I think a
closer look is needed a bit deeper in the stack (qtmir, audio-playback).

  When I receive a message, my phone halts for a moment and then
  resumes.

  1. Open messaging app.
  2. send a message to your own number
  3. before the message is received slowly drag from the left edge to the right

  What happens:
  when you are dragging, there is a slight halt in the UI before the OSD 
appears.
