This was solved for me with OTA10. Has been working fine ever since.
So I guess this is a "Works for me" post.

Title:
Bluetooth audio not working with Volvo multimedia

Status in bluez package in Ubuntu:
  Confirmed

Bug description:
Calls work just fine, which is in the "Telephone" part of the car's UI.
When changing to Multimedia mode and pairing with a Nexus 4, no audio is
played, nor is any audio playable later through the phone's own speakers.

  This is a 2012 Volvo S60 (Norwegian)

  Steps to reproduce:
  1. Pair with car multimedia system
  2. Confirm that the car display shows "Playing on Nexus 4" (or something to
that effect)
  3. Play song

  What I expected to happen:
Audio should have been played through the car's speakers

  What happened instead:
  No audio was played
Playing any audio, even after turning off bluetooth, does not work

  Phone:
  mako using Vivid @ r58
