Sorry, I should have tested it. But The new qtmir release in yakkety with:
   lp:~dandrader/qtmir/consecutiveCustomCursors

Does not fix this bug at all. If anything it's now much worse (cursor
not only doesn't animate but also pauses and stops responding to
movement too).

Bug description:
  Animated cursors don't animate in Unity8.

  Test case:
   mir_demo_client_animated_cursor -- --desktop_file_hint=unity8

  Works in Mir demo servers but not in Unity8.

  I mentioned this in bug 1447839 but that one appears to have closed
  prematurely.
