Argh... after reading the above (yeh, I know...) I went into the accounts settings and put my credentials in there, then returning to the updates page I could request the updates only to be hit by a 401 UNAUTHORIZED error.

And below a button to sign in. I found it strange because I never seen this message when updating before, but the real problem is that even if I push the button and sign in, nothing changes and I can't update, same message there. I also added my Ubuntu One account to the account section of the System Settings panel, but again nothing changes, and when checking the account it had disappeared. Seems that it can't stay logged in to the Ubuntu One account or sign in at all.
