Title:
Some applications launch in the incorrect orientation in the side
  stage

Status in qtubuntu package in Ubuntu:
  Fix Released
Status in unity8 package in Ubuntu:
  Fix Released

Bug description:
Looking at the current image for MWC, on flo
  (https://wiki.canonical.com/JohnMcAleely/MWCDemoNotes), launching some
apps come up in the wrong orientation:

Boot the image, observe on flo that the 'default' orientation is landscape
(as expected)
Dismiss the Greeter with 'tap to unlock'

  Swipe to bring in launcher

Select Phone icon. Launches in sidestage, portrait, as expected
Select Messages Icon, launches in sidestage, 90 degree over rotation compared
to expected result
Select Contacts icon. Launches in sidestage, portrait, as expected
Select Settings Icon, launches in sidestage, 90 degree over rotation compared
to expected result
Select Camera Icon, launches in main stage (as expected), in portrait mode
Select Gallery Icon, launches in main stage (as expected), in landscape as
expected
Select Browser Icon, launches in main stage (as expected), in landscape as
expected

Instead of moving to the launcher, go to the icon directly in the
  presented 'home' screen:

Select Grooveshark Icon, launches in sidestage, 90 degree over rotation
compared to expected result
Select Notes Icon, launches in sidestage, 90 degree over rotation compared
to expected result
Select File manager Icon, Launches in sidestage, portrait, as expected
Select Weather Icon, Launches in sidestage, portrait, as expected
Select Suduku Icon, Launches in sidestage, portrait, as expected

So in the list above: Messages, Settings, Grooveshark and Notes are
  all showing the incorrect rotation.

I observed at least once that 'jogging' (physically) the device
corrected the rotation, suggesting that accelerometer input may
correct the application (I have not investigated that completely).
