I've split off the miral-shell "hang on exit" as lp:1673038 since it
looks entirely separate to the Unity8 crash.

Bug description:
ubuntu 17.04 unity8
install vlc, launch it from app drawer or launcher
try to use the menu, the menu shows for a split second and closes
try to right click on vlc, here it just crashes/restarts unity8
