Title:
audio control does not affect volume and microphone input is not
recieved
Status in pulseaudio package in Ubuntu:
Expired
Bug description:
Binary package hint: pulseaudio
Using: Ubuntu 10.10 on an HP Pavilion dv6 laptop
While in a Skype call the other call member complained the noise from my
computers fan was too loud.
I plugged in an external microphone that I know works, having tested it with
a desktop computer running Windows XP.
However, the person I was in a call with complained that they could not hear
me at all.
I found that if I turn off my computer, then turn it on again, the
microphone does work and I can be heard fine using Skype and the
System>Preference>Sound app registeres input sound. However, after a
couple of minutes, my microphone goes dead, I can't be heard on Skype
and the System Sound application registers no sound.
On trying to fix this problem, I followed the instructions on this page:
http://www.stchman.com/alsa_update.html
The terminal responded then restarted my laptop. However, on the boot-
up sequence the system froze.
I pressed the power button until the system shut down, booted up and
tried again.
On the boot-up sequence the same thing happened, so I turned off and
booted up again.
Now, the volume control on the panel will not affect the volume at
all.
Thanks for reading.
