You have been subscribed to a public bug:

In Oneiric, you cannot change the program used to open a file to a non-standard
program.
I use the daily build of Libreoffice, which is loaded in the /opt/ folder.
There is no way I can get to the program from the oeneric interface other than
by calling the program up in a terminal.
This is incredibly inconvenient.

TEST CASE:
1. Launch Nautilus (Launcher -> Files)
2. Right-click on a file
3. On the contextual menu select "Open With / Other Application ..." or "Open
with other application..."
4. On the untitled dialog click on "Show other applications"

Result:
There is a list of "Recommended Applications" and "Other Applications" but no
way to select/add an application other than those being on the list.

Expected:
Ability to add an application to the list from the UI
