My screen was unresponsive: no mouse movement, nothing changes. Switching to a VC was possible, and the VC was not locked up. Switching back again to X (under XMir, console 7) worked for a second, maybe two seconds, and then the screen would freeze again. Switching to VC and then back to X would again give a second or so of visual activity. Actions I performed did appear to take effect while the screen was frozen, but were not shown on screen: for example, I was able to highlight some text in a browser, and then press alt+f2 and start an xterm, by doing it "blind": switching to a VC and then back to X showed that these things had happened. In the VC, dmesg showed this: [107758.813860] iwlwifi 0000:02:00.0: Q 17 is inactive and mapped to fifo 0 ra_tid 0x0000 [0,0] [107758.813926] iwlwifi 0000:02:00.0: Q 18 is inactive and mapped to fifo 0 ra_tid 0x0000 [0,0] [107758.813988] iwlwifi 0000:02:00.0: Q 19 is inactive and mapped to fifo 0 ra_tid 0x0000 [0,0] [111224.241455] systemd-timedated[23894]: /etc/localtime should be a symbolic link to a timezone data file in /usr/share/zoneinfo/. Attached to this bug is a copy of the /sys/kernel/debug/dri/0/i915_error_state file. I restarted lightdm from the VC and was given the opportunity to log in, but the system then showed a dialog box saying that I was in "low- graphics mode". I chose to exit to a console, at which point things seemed to hang. I switched back to the VC and rebooted with "sudo reboot" and the machine came back fine.
