  USB Modem permanently disconnects if there isn't constant network

  HOW TO REPRODUCE
  ****************

  1. Connect the USB modem.
  2. Using the Network Manager, configure the mobile broadband network to 
connect automatically as soon as it's available.
  2. Use the Internet for a while.

  EXPECTED BEHAVIOUR
  ******************

  - The Internet to stay connected.
  - If the Internet loses signal for a while, to automatically reconnect as 
specified in Network Manager.

  REAL BEHAVIOUR
  **************

  - Except if you are pinging a site each 5 second, the connection finishes 
going down forever.
  - The mobile network no longer appears in the Network Manager till you 
reconnect the modem.

  - In the "Terminal" application, to enter "ping google.com -i 5" and
  leave it open.

  - The work-around has been borrowed from the "D-Link DWR-921" router,
