Title:
  Xorg freeze - update

Status in Ubuntu:
  Incomplete

Bug description:
  Dear Ubuntu,

Thank you for taking the time to read this report. My last report
stated that nvidia-430 driver was the problem. I have since
reinstalled ubuntu 18.4 and carefully followed the EGPU setup provided
online using gswitch. I should note that last install I forgot to add
"systemctl enable gswitch". I have noticed far fewer issues.
Interestingly, I also enabled autologin for my account. This appears
to have helped the problem significantly. I did try switching to
regular password required at login and the freezing / hanging did
occur during some web browsing but it was only for about 5 - 10
seconds. I then immediately switched back to autologins and I have not
noticed any freezing or hanging! I believe the problem with regular
password req logins is that it causes my internal display (laptop
screen) to be enabled first during the login when I enter my password.
After I enter my password the internal display turns off and then I
use my external display only as I have that confiured in the ubuntu
device settings. But with autologin, the computer boots momentarily to
internal screen when you see the ubuntu dots sliding to the right and
  then into gnome.

So it appears using autologin is more stable when using an EGPU with
external display only! I am using nvidia-430 drivers.

So I think gdm3 needs an update or X11 needs an update so that it can
honor the external display better? Anyways! I will keep you posted.

  Thanks for your dedication guys!!

  Take care,

  Peter
