Actual behaviour: Seems the 'Speakers - Built-in Audio' playback device is not available in my settings. Instead there is 'Headphones - Built-in Audio' which obviously shouldn't exist. When actual headphones are attached, the do not playback either. Playback only works when connected via bluetooth or HDMI, but there are extra options, that do not work... not sure what it is detecting, as there is only one HDMI output. I followed this document to debug myself: https://help.ubuntu.com/community/SoundTroubleshooting. However, the second step works fine when connected via bluetooth or HDMI, as stated before. I have tried booting the Live USB, and audio works perfectly fine here, so this is not a hardware issue.
