All sound was dead even though all volumes were turned up and alsamixer reported all channels turned up. I don't think a kernel update was included, but I was not watching very carefully. Sound works when I boot off 2.6.32-27. I resolved the problem by enabling the ubuntu-audio-dev ppa: sudo add-apt-repository ppa:ubuntu-audio-dev/ppa sudo apt-get update and installing: sudo apt-get install linux-alsa-driver-modules-$(uname -r) This is not ideal because the default repository packaging is breaking the sound. I am not sure if this is going to break again on the next kernel update? Here is my sound configuration from BEFORE the fix (I ran "wget http://www.alsa-project.org/alsa-info.sh -O alsa-info.sh && bash alsa- info.sh" from terminal to get this): http://www.alsa- project.org/db/?f=99aca7c1374470f3e31df3d525904f5dd6aa6610 And AFTER: http://www.alsa- project.org/db/?f=6f892e0a72deec405b39602adefb2dc2799fe58e Hope this helps.
