Title:
[MacbookPro3,1] Auto volume change on jack detect no longer working

Status in alsa-driver package in Ubuntu:
  Expired

Bug description:
11.10 had a feature that adjusted volume when an output device was
added/removed. This is no longer working for me in 12.04. I'm not sure
exactly when it broke, but it worked well on my system (MacbookPro3,1)
  in 11.10.

  To reproduce:
  1) Set speaker volume to mute, e.g. by a hotkey or the sound indicator
  2) Plug in a pair of headphones to the headphone jack

  Expected results:
Sound is unmuted and routed through the headphones

  Actual results:
Sound is not unmuted. Manually unmuting causes audio to play through the
headphones as expected

The problem is not that both the speakers and headphones were set to
mute - the volume setting reliably stays the same whenever I
plug/unplug headphones. It appears that it's not being adjusted at all
  on a jack sense event.
