Had the same issue with an ASUS S551LN (Realtek ALC233, Internal Mic, combo microphone/headphone jack). After playing around a lot, the following settings in the alsamixer finally seemed to do the trick:
1) Playback->Mic: 100% 2) Playback->Mic Boost: 0% 3) Capture->Capture: 100% 4) Capture->Mic Boost: 0% This resulted in what looked like a very low mic level in pulseaudio, but the internal mic works fine. Changing any mic setting from pulseaudio immediately increases the boost in alsamixer and kills mic input.
