Alister, this bug was reported a while ago and there hasn't been any activity in it recently. We were wondering if this is still an issue? If so, could you please test for this with the latest development release of Ubuntu? ISO images are available from http://cdimage.ubuntu.com /daily-live/current/ .
If it remains an issue, could you please run the following command in the development release from a Terminal as it will automatically gather and attach updated debug information to this report: apport-collect -p xorg 1351385 Please ensure you have xdiagnose installed, and that you click the Yes button for attaching additional debugging information. As well, given the information from the prior release is already available, testing a release prior to the development one would not be helpful. Thank you for your understanding. It will work fine for seconds to minutes, and then the keys will start misbehaving. Status in xorg package in Ubuntu: Incomplete Bug description: I am very new to Ubuntu, and I am trying to follow the DebuggingKeyboardDetection on Ubuntu wiki, so I apologize if I am missing any information or sending a bug report when I needn't! (I have looked and not found an answer to this problem elsewhere) I have a lenovo g510 laptop that came pre-installed with windows 8.1, and I have Ubuntu 14.04.1 installed alongside windows 8.1. The laptop has an 'Accutype' keyboard, if that means anything. I have not installed any keyboard packages other than what came with the Ubuntu 14.04.1 installation. The problem: While typing in my passwords to various accounts, I was finding that the blinking cursor would suddenly disappear while in the middle of typing, and thus my password would be cut short. I opened up libre office to try and get a better idea of what was happening, and it looks like, as I am typing, my blinking cursor will suddenly jump up to the line above. It seems to be initiated by the pressing of any letter key—I don't believe it is any one particular key, and it comes and goes randomly. The problem seemed to subside for a time after I opened up the languages section and was prompted to install an update. However, within a day or so, the problem has returned.
