This is a significant bug in Ubuntu. If you need a fix for the bug in previous versions of Ubuntu, please perform as much as possible of the SRU Procedure [1] to bring the need to a developer's attention. Observe that under X you are having just one cursor displayed. 2) Press Ctrl+Alt+F1 to switch to tty1 console. 3) Observe that you have two cursors on the black screen: the square one is probably from gpm and responds to mouse movements, while the arrow one is as in X, is centered, and it does not move with the mouse.
