After bisecting the dist-upgrade, apt-mark holding various packages until I found the culprit.
It's either xserver-common, xserver-xorg-core, or xvfb (probably not the latter). If I unhold the first two and dist-upgrade, I see the freeze. ** Also affects: xorg-server (Ubuntu) Importance: Undecided Status: New ** No longer affects: lightdm (Ubuntu) ** Changed in: xorg-server (Ubuntu) Importance: Undecided => Critical -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Touch seeded packages, which is subscribed to lightdm in Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1462398 Title: wily boot is completely frozen Status in xorg-server package in Ubuntu: New Bug description: dist-upgrade today on a wily VM completely freezes boot. I'm reporting this against lightdm because it's the last message I see in the console during boot. I haven't bisected the dist-upgrade yet, but I can verify that I've seen this on two VMs (running in Fusion on OS X, though I doubt that matters - I haven't upgraded to wily on any native installs yet). The last message I see on the console is: [ OK ] Started Run Click system-level hooks. Started Light Display Manager... and deal with any system changes..p link was shut down..e after that, nothing!
