As was pointed out to me, there's a checkbox "Show volume in the menubar". Never even knew it existed. The checkbox was cleared. Activating it made the indicator come back.
I'm quite sure I never ever handled that checkbox, given I wasn't even aware of its presence. Not sure, though, what else happened here. -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Touch seeded packages, which is subscribed to indicator-sound in Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1474324 Title: Sound indicator disappeared after headset connection issue Status in indicator-sound package in Ubuntu: New Bug description: I switched my bluetooth headset on, it says it's connected. Selecting it in the audio settings doesn't enable it, sound still comes from the internal speakers. Switched my headset off and on again, no effect - usually this would have made it work. The headset doesn't indicate it's connected this time. Headset is still visible as a non-functional device in the audio settings. Meanwhile the sound indicator has disappeared.
