Public bug reported: When connecting my "Soundbox Pro External USB Sound Card, 24 bit 192 KHz Audio, 7.1 Channels" I'm able to make the analog ports working, but the SPDIF port aren't. Even if I select "Digital Output (S/PDIF) - USB2.0 High-Speed True HD Audio" as the ouput device in the sound control panel, there is no sound at all. No lights come out the optical port.
After having a long discussion in alsa irc channel we were able to use the optical port quite easily with this command: pasuspender -- speaker-test -c2 -twav -Dhw:Audio,1 we've been able to have pulse audio use the optical port by running these 2 commands: pactl load-module module-alsa-sink device=hw:Audio,1 pactl set-sink-formats 0 "pcm; ac3-iec61937; dts-iec61937; eac3-iec61937" however this adds the spdif port as a device in itself in pulse audio. It is working but this prevents me from using the input of another device (let's say micorphone in game). And some time when running those commands, my whole compute freezes and I have to reset my computer. This device should automatically get detected and when selecting "Digital Output (S/PDIF) - USB2.0 High-Speed True HD Audio" it should send audio through the spdif port on the card. I'm including the irc chat log for information purposes. lsb_release -rd Description: Ubuntu 15.04 Release: 15.04 apt-cache policy pulseaudio pulseaudio: Installed: 1:6.0-0ubuntu6 Candidate: 1:6.0-0ubuntu6 Version table: *** 1:6.0-0ubuntu6 0 500 http://ca.archive.ubuntu.com/ubuntu/ vivid/main amd64 Packages 100 /var/lib/dpkg/status Please let me know if you need anything else.
