Hey John,

I am really a very technical PC person, been in the development
engineering business for a loooooog time..

The user experience for me the first time around is really lacking.

Your posts have helped out alot but the Touch I have is really doing
some wierd things. I really dont think the external USb part is ready
for prime time, but I bought it anyway and want it to work!!

Attaching to my wireless network was easy and worked just fine.

I am standalone with a 1.0 TB drive (powered) USB. With 300 cds in
FLAC.

I did the firmware update via the wireless connection. No Issues.

I powered up the touch played with the internet radio etc fine works
ok.

I then attached the powered on USB drive to the powered on Touch it saw
the drive, attached and started the frist file find. I had not warning
or earthly idea that there are 3 phases of this file find / database
build going on. I stopped I think after the first phase and started
toplay songs only to have the song stop 10 seconds into playing of the
song so the server could go get the cover art. this took 40 seconds and
longer. no sound, but the song play advances and when the song audio
comes back its a minute or so later!! I was really disappointed.

I am sitting here on phase 2 of the database compilation, 91% there and
then the third pahes and hope the stopping of audio of album art is
fixed.

A few questions:

1. I dont want to unplug the usb drive and re-plug in each and
everytime as you suggest to avoid the re-cataloging? IS there anyway
this can be fixed?
I bought this gem to be able to play my flacs from a USB drive and
unhooking and rehooking this in my audio setup is really awful.

2. Several messages while the scanning process is going on
overlap..really looks terrible...

3. I guess if #1 cant be fixed I will just put my songs on a pc
harddrive and be happy :<((.

All the best
Alex
