Interesting.  Any idea what the "repair" disk utility may have resolved
in your case?
With the varying issues with Touch + HD usage I wonder if they should
add a Tips & Tricks section to the Wiki for such suggestions.
Maybe such simple routines could resolve a good number of HD and USB
annoyance issues, yours being a perfect example.  :)
