The minimal brightness control has a slider to set the minimal brightness, you have set that all the way to the left and its still too bright? On mine when I set the minimal brightness to the far left (as dim as it gets) its a barely discernible glow, even when dark adapted I can barely make out what is on the screen.
You may be seeing what a couple others are experiencing, that the light sensor seems to come out as bright when it gets really dark. You can test this by going to settings->advanced->factory tests->ambient light sensor The two channels and the lux should be right around zero. If they are some very large number you have the problem. If so try setting the "change gain" to on. This might fix the problem.
