I use an NV+ which is essentially the same as the Duo but with four disk
slots. If you have not already done so, upgrade the RAM on the Duo to
the full 1GB which should cost you pennies nowadays. Any laptop SO-DIMM
of the right speed will work, regardless of the supported hardware
list.

I found trying a wireless network even with a good signal gave me
problems. I went wired and since installing 7.5.1 release have had
minimal problems. There are sstill performance issues and 7.6 beta is a
complete CPU pig.

Log onto the Duo using SSH (you need to install the enable SSH mod from
the readynas site) and run top to watch the CPU load as you play music.
If the squeeze perl script uses >98% for more than the first 5 seconds
of each track then there is a problem.
