How are you connect to your router? I have been experiencing the same problem when my touch was running wireless, but I then tried it using Ethernet and boom the device came up on the 'Workgroup' domain. I was able to access the folders on my USB drive, however, once I reverted to wireless again I was denied access and the device disappeared from the domain.
