Digital content (be it music or movies or ebooks) must be licensed for
sale in a given country by the license holder/owner in a such a
country. Take movies for example. Netflix.com in US was able to license
content directly from the content owners (movie studios) and the
selection is impressive. Netflix.ca has to license content from the
Canadian license holder (in case of movies it is mostly TV operators
like Global etc.) and the result is a much smaller and older selection.
They have to go thru negotiations in a smaller, less innovative market,
you can see the results at netflix.ca, not even worth to sign up for a
free month.

The licensing limitations are not restricted to US only, UK BBC for
example will not allow to download podcasts if you are outside of UK.

Music streaming services (Pandora for example) and legit music download
sites have similar restrictions. There is also added complication with
taxes that should be collected and remitted.

Overall, for such a small market as Canada, going thru the hurdles to
sell you a digital content might not be worth an effort.

So what can the digital content deprived Canuck do ?

There are few options:

- start a political movement to join US of A
- move to US of A
- get yourself a US Credit Card and use VPN services that get you an US
IP
