New info: when connecting to a server directly, without my wireless route/firewall in between, it works. So there is no firewall issue on the linux server. The router is a Linksys WRT 54G V2 with Svaesoft Alchemy v1.0. This seems to be the problem since it is known to not forwarding port 9000 traffic. ..Damn..
