The easiest way to do it is to install the server software on your laptop and let it control the device. This alows you to play anything the server can play (which is pretty much anything) to the device.
To also hear what is playing through the laptop speakers you need SqueezePlay or SqueezeSlave both of which lets your laptop act as another device. If you play a video or a song on media player or so it will only play on the laptop. You have to play the song, or internet radio through the squeeze server.
