The problem usually has to do with ALSA "card numbers". The music goes
to the "default" ALSA device. The schemes for USB change what actual
device is called "default" so the musiv goes to the USB DAC. The
"effects channel" is hardcoded to go to device 2. When a USB DAC is
plugged in it usually manages to reassign the card numbers so the
internal speaker is not device 2 any more. So when the Touch sends the
effects (beeps etc) to device 2, it doesn't go to the internal speaker.

There are two ways to get around this: figure out how to change what
card the Touch sends the effects to, OR prevent the USB DAC from
changing the default device to card number mapping.

A while back someone posted a udev script that will assign the USB DAC
to a specific card number, so it won't affect the other devices. This
is probably the best way to deal with this issue.

Search for udev in this forum and it should pop up.
