The randomplay funtion can be used too, it require you to deselect all genres but the one you wan't . It would cue up randon songs 10 at the time from that genre forever.
Pressing play on a genre would cue up the x first songs in that genre, where x is your playlist size limit. Probably alphabetically. And then are shuffled, so if the genre is bigger than the playlist limit it will not shuffle frommthenwhole alphabet. You can go to the performance settings and set playlist limit to "0" this means unlimited, sbs would the cue up all songs in a genre or crash :) depending on cpu. Default limit is 500 songs A modern pc could handle pretty large playlist so it gets to be a problem when collections is large and the cpu is small ( a low powered server or NAS ) Another option is tomuse the Dynamic playlist plugin it is much more flexible and has simple modes directly selctable as play random from genre(s) But normal random play and Dynamic playlist can be setup to play from a selection of genres, this is good as the genre tag tend to be a mess. Randomplay is much easier for the computers cpu, squeezeboxserver is a very ineficient program when handling large playlists, they made rocket science out of it. But running it on fast pc you wont always notice. While in the performance settings use the "high" memory setting it makes everything faster and better if you ram to spare. -- Mnyb -------------------------------------------------------------------- Main hifi: Touch + CIA PS +MeridianG68J MeridianHD621 MeridianG98DH 2 x MeridianDSP5200 MeridianDSP5200HC 2 xMeridianDSP3100 +Rel Stadium 3 sub.
