I had a similar problem with a WiFi camera mounted high under the eves of the house. At height, your device will see far more signals from security cameras, WiFi nodes and anything that uses that band and there are alot. Since it's your PC in the attic, download Xirrus WiFi inspector (Google it) and see what your attic placed PC can see. You may find one channel is being swamped. You could then simply move channel or if all are busy you may have to move the PC downstairs somewhere.
