Yea the server software is free ,so download it in advance .

You can try to get your files scanned and sorted, but the server
software by itself does not play anything, for that you need a player
just like the one you ordered :)
Piont is that the Touch is the player and does not depend on any audio
related drivers or software on the serving PC ( the PC does not need to
have any working audio at all ) totally independent of the PC , server
is just sending a stream over your network to the player

But ,there is a software version called SqueezePlay that "emulates" a
Touch ,that you could run on your desktop ( google and you will find )
to have a player to toy with .
Note :
it is somewhat buggy not as good a hardware Touch .
It can't simulate conection over your network unless you install it on
another pc , if you want to test your firewall software.

Get yourself familiar with the software and ask more later .

I do recommend the beginners guide in the wiki , you see the link at the
upper rigth corner on this forum.
