It's a bummer, as I am in Japan and returning this is going to be a
hassle, and won't be cheap. And of course there is a good chance Amazon
won't have a 'new' one left to send me.

It must be Logitech at fault, as I bought it via Amazon international
sales (not a merchant), and I doubt if Amazon would indulge in such
crude bait and switch antics. Or would they ...?
