good point. to be fair, I think there are plenty of good masters used for CDs (and plenty of bad). I think the 24/96 may sometimes have a better mastering, because they were done much later than the original CD or album, so newer technology, more care because the album is now a "classic" etc. may make the newer mastering better. On the other hand, many folks cherish older masterings because new masters have fallen prey to the "loudness wars". One example, the Fleetwood Mac CD of "Then Play On" has long been regarded as a terrible CD in terms of sound quality as compared with original album. A newly remastered version of the CD was released last week that is much better quality (and restores original UK running order, and includes the A/B sides of the single "oh well, pt1 and pt2). But it is 16/44.1, so I didn't have to resort to hires to simply get the better version (which was nice). *Location 1:* VortexBox Appliance 4TB (2.2) > LMS 7.7.2 > Transporter, Touch, Boom, Radio w/Battery (all ethernet) *Location 2:* VBA 3TB (2.2) > LMS 7.7.2 > Touch > Benchmark DAC I, Boom, Radio w/Battery (all ethernet except Radio) *Office:* Win7(64) > LMS 7.8 > SqueezePlay *Spares:* VBA 4TB, SB3, Touch (3), Radio (3), CONTROLLER *Controllers:* iPhone4S (iPeng), iPad2 (iPengHD & SqueezePad), CONTROLLER, or SqueezePlay 7.7 on Win7(64) laptop Ripping (FLAC) - dbpoweramp, Tagging - mp3tag, Spotify ------------------------------------------------------------------------ garym's Profile: http://forums.slimdevices.com/member.php?userid=17325 View this thread: http://forums.slimdevices.com/showthread.php?t=99460 _______________________________________________ Touch mailing list Touch@lists.slimdevices.com http://lists.slimdevices.com/mailman/listinfo/touch
