Dear Rob, and Toybox community, The European Commission’s EU-FOSSA 2 project is connecting with a number of developer communities – including Toybox – to discuss how to improve the security of some of the smaller open source software. We hope you are willing to work with us and discuss security-related issues, practices and needs.
In the first instance we would like to invite you to an interactive session with Marek Przybyszewski and Saranjit Arora, the Project Managers of the EU-FOSSA 2 project. The project aims to improve the security of critical open source software by setting up bug bounty programmes, organising hackathons, and engaging with developer communities. We have included more information on EU-FOSSA 2 as an attachment to this invitation. The reasons we selected the Toybox project for this programme are that it is available for Linux and Android as well as MacOS and FreeBSD, and that it can be compiled against several C libraries. Other FOSS projects approached in a similar fashion include OpenKeyChain, the FPGA/OSHW community, LineageOS and /e/, and Arduino. Please advice who should be involved in this session from your side (e.g. team leads, core developers, community members involved in security). The Project team will set up a web conference call when we agree on a date and time, and a short agenda. We hope to hold this session in the coming weeks. Please let us know how you feel about this and what further information you need to decide. Thank you, Adrian Offerman on behalf of the EU-FOSSA 2 team -- Ir. drs.
