I doubt my ISP would change any pointer records for me, as I have a
dynamically-assigned IP address (DSL modem using PPPoE). My old ISP was a
dynamically-assigned address also (Cable modem using DHCP). I am using,
and have been using, one of those hostname redirector services
(www.no-ip.com to be specific) which automatically changes the IP address
my hostname points to. Whenever my IP address changes I wind up not being
able to receive TPC traffic for about 30 minutes while the new IP address
percolates through the nameservers. I guess some of the more remote
nameservers might actually take more than 30 minutes to get my new IP
address, but since my IP address only changes when I reboot the linux box
(every other week) I think the arrangement is good.
Ain't the internet grand? Do you *know* how much this would cost me each
month if I had to pay for a full-time static IP subnet and a 'real' domain
name? TPC would lose *this* cell, that's for sure...
