well ... I'm not an expert server administrator or integrator but I managed to get trac running on windows 2003 and this without editing any DLLs (yuck).
And sure I got some integration problems, but more caused by my lack of knowledge of all the tools involved than problem caused by the tools themselves or windows itself. In fact, as I'm planing to move on a dedicated server to host all that, I thought at the beginning to go with a Linux server, but as I don't know that much Linux from the admin side, I decided to go again with a windows 2003 box, and no I don't feel that much masochist :). Right now the system is working with IIS 6 - Apache 2.0.59 - Python 2.3, Trac v0.9.6 stable and all is working fine for 4 Trac/SVN sites which total about 20 users, yes it's small but I really see no reason why it could no grow bigger and still working well. I already took some notes and plan to document that on the trac wiki, but I'm waiting the dedicated server to really fully document everything from a fresh install view. I don' agree at all with someone who would say "you do indeed get what you pay for", it is really stupid imho, at worst you can access the source and modify it to your need, at best you can earn money/time by just using the tool. But if I'm commenting it's because I don't agree also on that " it must be admitted that implementing OSS in a windows environment on the serverside is a bit mad", if I like so much OSS is because I can use stuff written in Perl/Python/PHP/etc... and indeed make them run either on Linux or Windows or both if it's what I need/prefer. I don't think saying something as "if you're on windows just use tracd, or ditch windows and use linux and don't bother us" would be very helpfull in the long run, I don't know if it's a good example but each time I'm hired on a coding project I impose to the team to use Trac and SVN, and at the end of the project most of the time I got people asking me if I can setup Trac on their Windows server because they just love the tool. zwetan --~--~---------~--~----~------------~-------~--~----~ You received this message because you are subscribed to the Google Groups "Trac Users" group.
