Ha! Figured out how to fix the problem with the help of this post: http://trac.macports.org/projects/macports/ticket/10772
It basically explains that the new versions of gettext and ilibconv messed everything up. I followed the instructions and uninstall all the ports that relied on these libraries. I also uninstalled those libraries just in case. I then reinstalled everything from the beginning. Didn't take as long as I thought, about two hours.
