Hi - I'm shopping around for an open source app to help us with workflow and issue-tracking in our interactive department. I think this app looks really cool and would like to try it, but I'm a bit overwhelmed with all the pre-requisite software I'm having to setup. I'm afraid my experience is limited to "click on next" installers. At the same time I'm willing to learn. Can anyone please help me?
I'm stuck on the "Creating a Project Environment" step. I am unable to intialize trac-admin. Honestly, I am a bit unsure as to whether I have all the necessary pre-requisites installed. I am attempting to run this on Windows Server 2003. I recently installed Python 2.3. I also recently installed apache server - 2.0 (not the latest build as I read that subversion does not support this.). I also downloaded SQLite. I don't see mod_python in the apache modules directory so maybe this is my problem? The installation instructions for mod_python seem really difficult. Do I really need to compile and run all those command line settings? Are these mods pre-compiled? Can't I simply drop them in a plugin folder as in Eclipse? I used the windows installer version of Trac and so I was assuming that it would not be necessary to perfom the "Installing Trac" step? My Python installation does have a site-packages directory named trac. I have been running the python command line tool from the python program files directory in Windows and can't get it to recognize trac-admin. I am unfamiliar with the syntax. Am I supposed to precede commands with the $ symbol? I also don't understand what "top of the source directory" means. What is the source directory? "Like most Python programs, the Trac Python package is installed by running the following command at the top of the source directory:" Thanks in advance!
