Sort of. I tried to capture all the info I gathered as concise as possible
and most of all: I want to know *exactly why* what I'm trying is not
working. I hear a lot of people suggesting what may the problem, but I
would like to be able to run a couple of command and get some definitive
proof of what is wrong with my setup.

What exactly is outdated according to you? It has been suggested to me
that python-sqlite 1.1.x is too old for Trac, but there are reports of
people who have a working setup on RHEL/CentOS 4 using this package, plus
the howto on the Trac wiki is giving instructions that give you this
setup: <http://trac.edgewall.org/wiki/TracOnRhel4>.

I just don't like to give up just like that. :)
