You do not need Apache to use either Subversion or Trac. You need APR (likely a version from Apache 2) for subversion, but thats it. You do need Apache 2 to run the Subversion DAV module, but that is unrelated to Trac.

I am using OS X Server, which ships with Apache 1.3. I've gotten most of the way through installing Trac on this setup, but I read conflicting arguments from my googling regarding Apache 1.3 support for Subversion. Is it fact that in order to properly run Trac, you have to use Apache 2? It seems when these solutions come across, they are referring to subversion's own http support, and not Trac's. If I can get away with it, I would rather wait until Apple ships 10.5 server (rumored to come with Apache 2). I built my Trac install without Fink's help. I'm not opposed to switching to version 2 (I rather prefer it honestly, but it conflicts with some business needs).

We just run both (2.x and 1.x) on our Xserve, without any problems. We left what was running (e.g., Blosjom) under 1.x, and added everything new under a new 2.x installation.

Cheers!
